Ingredients

  • 4 cups of bread flour

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp iodized salt

  • 2.75 tsp dry active yeast

  • 1.5 cups warm water

  • 1 tbsp agave (optional)

  • everything bagel seasoning (optional)

Directions

  1. Start by combining the warm water and dry active yeast in a small bowl

  2. In a medium sized bowl, sift your flour to aerate it, and then measure each cup, before adding it to a larger bowl, or a mixer.

  3. After you have sifted and measure your 4 cups of flour, add the sugar and salt to your large bowl or mixer.

  4. If you are using a mixer, used a hook grip attachment and mix until the flour, salt and sugar are evenly combined. If you are using a bowl, whisk the ingredients together

  5. Next slowly add in the warm water and yeast mixture. If using a mixer, use the first or second speed. If using a mixing bowl, use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix ingredients together.

  6. Kneed in the mixer or by hand for 5-10 minutes until a consistent dough has formed.

  7. Put the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Allow the dough to rise for 60-90 minutes.

  8. After the dough has risen, put the dough on a flat, floured surface. Cut the dough into 8 equal parts.

  9. In a large pot add 8 cups of water and 1 tbsp of agave. Put on the stove and bring to a boil. Preheat your oven to 425.

  10. Use your hands to form each dough into a ball. Begin to flatten the dough and use your fingers to make a hole in the center of the dough and form into a bagel shape.

  11. When each dough ball has been shaped into a bagel you will boil each. Boil for 1 minute, flip the bagel over and boil for an additional minute. After it has boiled on each side, place bagels on a greased baking sheet or one lined with parchment paper

  12. After you have placed the bagel on the baking sheet, immediately add everything bagel seasoning. It’s important to do this while the bagels are will wet from boiling. This will help the seasoning stick.

  13. After each bagel has boiled and been topped with seasoning, place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.

  14. After the bagels have baked, serve imediately or allow to cool and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 10 days.
